Netanyahu ‘reaffirms commitment’ to Gaza ceasefire, Hamas showing hope: Blinken

A glimmer of hope has emerged over the US-proposed Gaza ceasefire. Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has expressed his strong support for the US-proposed ceasefire. Hamas also welcomed the proposal, saying the group was ready to discuss the proposal. This information is known from the report of the Israeli media Times of Israel.

On Monday, the United Nations Security Council approved the Gaza ceasefire draft proposed by the United States. According to the US proposal, the proposal includes a permanent cease-fire in Gaza, the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas, the handover of the bodies of slain hostages and the release of Palestinian prisoners.

According to the report of the British media BBC, among the 5 permanent members and 10 non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, all countries except Russia voted for this proposal. Russia abstained from voting in favor of the resolution, although it did not veto it.

However, Hamas welcomed the proposal’s support in the UN Security Council. The group’s senior leader, Sami Abu Zuhri, told Reuters news agency that they welcome the US ceasefire proposal backed by the United Nations and that the group is ready for detailed discussions on the matter.

On the other hand, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his strong support for the US proposal during a meeting with US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken. That’s what Blinken said. However, Netanyahu has repeatedly stated publicly that there will be no ceasefire until the goal of eliminating Hamas in Gaza is achieved.

After a meeting with Netanyahu in East Jerusalem yesterday, Netanyahu said that during their meeting in Jerusalem yesterday, Netanyahu ‘reaffirmed his commitment to the Gaza ceasefire.’ At the time, he said, there was a “hopeful” sign that Hamas welcomed the US ceasefire proposal after it received UN support.
