A suicide bombing occurred in the southern city of Kandahar in Afghanistan. The explosion happened outside a bank on Thursday local time. Three people were killed and 12 others were injured. A provincial official said this.

Inamullah Samangani, director of information and culture in Kandahar province, told AFP news agency, “According to preliminary information, three Afghan nationals were killed and 12 wounded in a suicide attack in the city of Kandahar around 8 am local time today.”

The blast targeted a group of people waiting outside the New Kabul Bank branch in Kandahar. Samangani said, “The victims are civilians. Usually everyone gathers there to collect salary.

The Taliban ended their insurgency after ousting the US-backed government in August 2021. Since then, the number of bombings and suicide attacks in Afghanistan has decreased significantly. However, threats from ISIS and several armed groups remain.
